Heat oil and sauté onion in a heavy based pan. Add lamb to pan and seal until brown - better done in a couple of batches if the pan is a little crowded.
Add remaining ingredients - apart from pasta - and simmer with lid on pan over a medium heat for 45 minutes stirring occasionally to check there is enough liquid, adding a little water only if necessary.
For the last 10 minutes of cooking, cook pasta according to the instructions on the packet.
Drain pasta and serve with lamb on heated plates.
