Suzanne
If I don’t check what I’ve got in my cupboards before I go shopping, I end up buying things I already have.

Alex
My food goes in the fridge or freezer in date order so the stuff at the front gets used up first.

Graeme
You buy more because you think you’re saving, but really you’re not – you end up throwing half of it out. We’re all guilty of doing it.

Jo
I am sure people don’t actually like throwing food out but maybe think I wish I could use this but don’t know how to.

Suzanne
I used to do a big shop and the amount of stuff I would throw out was unbelievable. Now I buy fresh every couple of days.

Alex
Check the labels when you are buying food so you know how long it will last and if you are going to be able to use it up in time.

Graeme
I’ve started buying rolls instead of bread as you can buy rolls in twos, fours, sixes and then you’ve got what you need.

Jo
I peel apples that are going wrinkly and cook them as a pudding for myself.

Suzanne
I like to plan our meals for the week and write a shopping list– as well as keeping me organised, it also saves money too because I stick to my list.
Alex
For example, if I make mince and there are any leftovers, I will divide these into portions and put them in the freezer.
