Remember old favourites – such as bread and butter pudding. If you have bread that has gone stale, don’t throw it out. Try making a savoury version. Spread the bread with ready-made mustard instead of butter. Add layers of onions, peppers and tomatoes in-between the bread. Pour in a milk and egg mixture and bake in the oven.

The nation loves potatoes, but maybe you have leftover baked or mashed potatoes from your evening meal. Don’t throw them out – be creative and make a tasty, healthy version of “hash browns” for breakfast. Use a little olive oil and fry mashed or sliced baked potato in a pan. Add in any spices or herbs and throw in a handful of sunflower seeds.
